Léonard Tsuguharu Foujita was a Japanese-French painter and printmaker who applied Japanese ink techniques to Western style paintings. He has been called "the most important Japanese artist working in the West during the 20th century." His work, particularly his etchings and lithographs, often featured cats, women, and children, characterized by a delicate, fine line and a unique milky-white background that gained him immense popularity in the School of Paris.
